Seeking the Ever Present Moment, or How Puffs are Training for Presence

By Henrita Frost, SSND

One day I asked myself what are you hungering for?  I truly hunger for the presence of the Divine within – the God of compassion.  For fleeting moments it happens and puff it is gone – my distractible mind did it again.  Wait it is back!  I entered the present moment again – briefly, but for sure – puff it is gone again.  O God, I am exhausted by puffs – I beg, give me only presence.

Roll the Stones Away

By Henrita Frost, SSND

An Easter Encounter
Welcome transformation
Roll the stones away

If Easter and the Resurrection are to be alive in our times and lives, it is crucial for us to become an Easter People in these unbelievably difficult times in which we live.  We know them, we can feel them and we can hear the cries of our suffering sisters and brothers.

Allow the Resurrection experience to be present.  Feel the stone being moved from the entrance of the tomb.  Rejoice Jesus is freed.   What great hope is ours!  Our great challenge is to be transformed by the Resurrection!  As we experience the stone being removed from the tomb, consider removing the stones that bind our lives and prevent us from being an Easter People.

The Easter path is mysterious and it is ours to navigate by rolling away stone upon stone.  Then freedom can emerge as we become transformed, bringing Easter Hope, Joy and Love wherever we are, and to all beings that we encounter.

Easter hope is here
Stone upon stone rolled away
Joy and love live here

Touching Our Innermost Wisdom

by Pastor Pat Siegler

Touching our innermost wisdom is key to emotional understanding. There are no books for this understanding. Simply the fortitude to investigate yourself. To cut back the tricks, charades, and masks is the beginning to touching your wisdom that is most truly your sacred heart. The sacred heart of understanding and compassion.

Prayer composition by Gen Cassini, SSND

Offered by Henrita Frost, SSND

O GOD, our words cannot express what our minds can barely comprehend and our hearts feel when we hear of children and adults deceived and transported to unknown places for purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labor because of human greed.

Our hearts are saddened and our spirits angry that their dignity and rights are being transgressed through threats, deception and force. We cry out against the degrading practice of trafficking and pray for it to end.

Strengthen the fragile-spirited and broken-hearted. Make real your promises to fill these our sisters and brothers with a love that is tender and good and send the exploiters away empty-handed.

Give us the wisdom and courage to stand in solidarity with them, that together we will find ways to the freedom that is your gift to all of us. Amen.

Choosing Compassion of Thought, Tongue and Heart and the Vow of Nonviolence

By Henrita Frost, SSND

As time moves on, I often become increasingly aware of the overabundance of violence in words flowing from violent thoughts.  We are surely aware and overwhelmed by the growing global violence in actions.  We ask ourselves is there any hope that it will end. Is Peace, Shalom, Salaam, Frieden, Pace. . .  at all  possible?

About Woodpeckers, Opening the Door of My Heart, and Radical Compassion

The Christine Center’s Door of Mercy and Compassion.

By Henrita Frost, SSND

As so often happens when I am meditating, I hear a woodpecker pecking away at our wooden home called Shekinah. Then the woodpecker travels from the House to the birdfeeder and back again to the House.

One of our maintenance staff told me that a woodpeckers pecked 17 holes in the House in one session.

So what can I expect? It is of the nature of woodpeckers to peck at our Home to find nourishment.

Work at Putting Away My Own Agenda

By Pat Siegler

Work at putting away my own agenda.
As the “I” closes, the Divine “We” opens in beautiful wonder.
The less self-focused I become
the clearer the world comes to be.
As this transformation takes place,
the Divine of the world is revealed.

River Wisdom

IMG_8318-365x365” Enlightenment means waking up to what you truly are and then being that.  Realize and be, realize and be. Realization alone is not enough. The completion of self-realization is to be, which means to act, do, and express what you realize.”

” I prayed that she would gain the wisdom of the river, knowing which rocks to go around, which rocks to go over, and which to patiently carve through, drop by drop.”

From God in the Wilderness…..Rabbi Jamie Korngold

Combining the wisdom of both as I sit in silence this morning i feel that merely wanting to live filled with compassion…….reading about it…….taking classes about it……… talking about it can be parts of the “realizing”  but alone they result in an empty page.

Global Candlelight Vigil to Remember Lost Migrant Lives: International Migrants Day December 18, 2015

By Sister Henrita Frost, SSND

To mark this year’s International Migrants Day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is calling on the international community to come together and remember the refugees and migrants who have tragically lost their lives this year.

IOM invites the international community to hold the first global Candlelight Vigil to commemorate the lives that have been lost or have disappeared while trying to reach safe harbour after arduous journeys across seas and deserts this year.

Each person has a name, a story and left their homelands seeking better opportunities and safety for themselves and in many cases for their families – aspirations that all of us strive for.
